What kind of wire can be used with OK-I USA Twisted Pair Transmission products?
Use UTP (unshielded twisted pair) CAT 5 24 AWG (or over) to have the best transmission quality performance. To use STP (shielded twisted pair) cable, the shielded would cause internal signal interference, so the transmission range would be shorter (1.5KM--- >0.8KM) than UTP cable.
Un-twisted wire is not recommended, due to high interference and shorter range.
Can RJ11 ordinary telephone wire be used with OK-I USA Twisted Pair Transmission products?
Yes, OK-I USA Video Transceivers can use ordinary telephone wire to transmit up to 1000 feet (300 meters). However interference would occur easily, therefore we do not recommend this solution unless it is required by a special environment or situation.
Can UTP wire reside with other wires in a multi pair wire bundle?
Yes, one of the benefits of using OK-I USA transceivers is interference rejection. OK-I USA video signals can reside in the same wire bundle as multiple video signals, telephone wire, Ethernet, coaxial…etc. Power wire is not to recommended to be placed in the same bundle to avoid interference.
Can spare pairs in an existing CAT 5 network cable be used with OK-I USA Twisted Pair Transmission products?
Yes, you can use any spare pairs to transmit video image via OK-I USA products. Normally, a PC would use the first and second pairs for the Internet, so the third and fourth pairs could be used for video signal transmission. Please make sure this cable does not pass through any hubs.
What is the advantage of using OK-I USA Twisted Pair Transmission products? SMART, FAST, COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
When using coaxial cabling transmission over 650 feet (200 meters) (RG59), the video signal degrades resulting in poor quality video images. Using a OK-I USA passive video transceiver boosts transmission range up to 1200 feet (300 meters) for Color, 2000 feet (600 meters) for B/W. With an active transceiver the maximum range is extended up to 2.4KM.
When using the OK-I USA VB400T 4-channel video balun twisted pair transceiver, you only need one single CAT 5 cable to transmit 4 video signals for a fast installation and cable saving solution.
CAT 5 cable cost is only half of coaxial cable and much more easy to install than coaxial cable.
Is it possible to use one single CAT 5 network cable to transmit video signals and control data?
Yes, you can use one single CAT 5 twisted pair cable with OK-I USA model VB111T to transmit video, power and data signals. You can also use our VB410T to transmit 4 sets of video, power and data signals.
The reason for the “rolling” image is from the power interference during transmission or the video transmission range is too big between 2 or multi channels resulting in an unbalanced signal. You could add VF100BNC or VF100BNC-G (Coaxial Video Ground Loop Isolation) for extra interference rejection.
Why is there “Power Waving” interference on the video image?
Twisted pair cabling may have “Power Waving” interferences that are mostly from High Frequency (such as radio) or Differences in ground potentials caused by unbalanced power line loads. In this case, you could add our VF100BNC-G “Video Ground Loop Isolator” to eliminate the interference.
Generally, it is not easy to find out where this kind of interference originates from, so we would recommend using a monitor to check each connecting point (between two wire connection), to find out where is the source of interference.
Why is the video image unstable and color abnormally light (sometimes even resulting in no video image) when connecting to the DVR, but the video image is good when connected to the monitor directly?
Video signals will degrade once transmitted through any cable, be it coaxial or twisted pair wire. Video signals through DVR (analog to digital signal) experience an even more severe signal loss. If the video signal output is less than 0.8Vpp, the picture display will lack quality and have bad or ghosted video images. You could use our following products for improvement: for twisted pair cabling, you could alternate the passive receiver to active type VBA100R/VBA400R/VBA800R-1U/VBA1600R-1U, with built-in brightness and sharpness controls. If the range is over 1.5km, you could add one more active video transmitter for series connection.
Why is the video picture unstable or B/W on the DVR, but looks fine when distributing one video image to 2 monitors?
Splitting one Video signal into 2 channels will result in signal degradation, causing unstable video. Please use our Video Distributor VD122BNC/VD428BNC/VD8216BNC-1U which amplifies and stabilizes the video signal before distributing the signal.
Why is the video image overly bright, snowy, or wavy when testing or using active twisted pair transmission products?
Please correct the following two conditions :
These products are designed for long range transmission, utilizing the built-in video amplifier function. If your transmission range is under 300 feet (100 meters), the video gain function is too big to have snowy, wavy, or overly bright images occur. We recommend to use them with range at least 300 feet (100 meters) or longer. Alternatively, you can try using OK-I USA passive video transceivers VB series for short range transmission, which can also save costs.
The active receivers have "5 position distance range switch" for different range transmission. Please switch to the appropriate range for your application to avoid any weak or bad images.
Why is there a ghost or double, cascade shadow (one channel comes out the shadow of other channel image) when using Series Connection on twisted pair transmission products?
Please make sure the cable connection is secure to avoid video loss, interference, or even cable oxidation. The best solution is to solder the cable or use a communication cable UY connector. Furthermore, make sure to cut the unnecessary cable while doing the series cable connection as following:
Why is the video image wavy and shaky under one channel transmission application?
An incorrect twisted pair cable connection would cause the video image to be wavy and shaky if there is only one pair of wire for one channel video transmission. Please check the cable connection and make sure the TX wire and RX wire are equivalent. (Example: TX: 1, 2 = RX: 1, 2 or TX: 7,8 = RX: 7,8).
Why do cameras and video transceivers used outdoors have higher defective rates and unstable quality?
Normally, outdoor cabling utilizes long range transmission for camera signals. This results in a higher probability of surge or lightning damage. Even products with built-in TVS (Transient Diode for Surge Protection) are affected, but these have a higher threshold for surge and lightning damage.
Will RF interfere with the video signal when using OK-I USA devices?
No, OK-I USA devices are highly immune to interference. CAT 5 UTP twisted pair wire is immune to RF interference. The primary concern is tha high power (signal noise ratio) RF signals will cause video interference. You could try to use a twisted pair wire with an aluminum foil Mylar shield with one drain wire and braided shield. Another solution is to try relocating away from the high interference area.
