What's a GBIC?

GBIC is an Abbreviation for GigaBit Interface Converter, a transceiver that converts serial electronic signals to optical signals and vice versa. In networking, a GBIC is used to interface a fiber optic system with an Ethernet system, such a Fiber Channel and Gigabit Ethernet.

A GBIC allows designers to create one type of device that can be adapted for either optical or copper applications. Also GBICs are hot-swappable, which adds to the ease of upgrading high performance electro-optical communication networks.

The DynaGST/1602G and 2402G Gigabit Ethernet switches are an ideal solution for solving traffic congestion at the core of the network. They offer auto-negotiation 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet ports that can significantly improve your network backbone performance. They will also fit into any enterprise level network as an exit to the backbone switch.
